New MVP Formula on CricHQ

13/1/2016

CricHQ have developed and launched a revolutionary Most Valuable Player (MVP) product that was launched to kick off 2016.

The new CricHQ MVP formula has been developed from analysis of statistics from the full history of international cricket and over 100,000 matches across all levels of recreational cricket, and the input from CricHQ customers around the world. CricHQ MVP provides a dynamic, statistically driven assessment of the contribution made by individuals to their teams performance during each match.

CricHQ MVP has been designed to work across each format of cricket with MVP points calculating live as the match progresses.

CricHQ CEO, Simon Baker said “we are really excited to have NZCPA on board to help us launch CricHQ MVP  and we are confident that our customers will find it easy to understand and will enjoy a greater understanding of how MVP points are awarded. CricHQ MVP is unique in that it has been created through research and objective mathematical principles”.

The new formula recognises the format of the match and can quickly adapt to the situation of the game, rewarding players constantly through the game on events, as they happen. This will ensure that all levels of cricket from International through to Junior Cricket will have a relevant rating system that fairly allocates points to players based on the game they are participating in.

The CricHQ MVP formula replaces the previous formula that was launched in New Zealand by the NZCPA after it was developed in the UK by the Professional Cricketers Association. The original formula was developed with professional cricket in mind and although relevant as an assessment mechanism at that level, it is not easily transferred into multiple levels of the game.

“We were starting to think about a need for a more dynamic way of measuring player contributions during a match. CricHQ have been able to come up with a completely new approach that we are confident will be an excellent measurement of performances within each match" said NZCPA Commercial and Events Manager, Glen Sulzberger.

“We are proud to be supporting the launch of CricHQ MVP”.

CricHQ has updated to the new MVP formula across all CricHQ platforms - iOS App, Android App and CricHQ.com.

Information on how the new formula will calculate can be found in the MVP section of our website.
