Bharat Popli stamped his mark on the first class scene with an astonishing series of performances this summer. Surpassing a century on three occasions and with a top score of 172 the talented right hander also became the fifth player to score more than 1000 domestic first class runs in a season.
So often in the past the Plunket Shield MVP has belonged to all-rounders, but the revamped CricHQ MVP formula has balanced the ledger.
Although the top ten is still heavily populated by players who contribute in more than one skill it is Popli who was able fend off the chasing pack.
Popli rightly sits atop the batting MVP rankings with 114.90 points, ahead of Brad Wilson, Ben Smith, Luke Woodcock and Michael Guptill-Bunce who rounded out the top 5.
Spinners stole the limelight in the bowling MVP rankings, with veteran Jeetan Patel leading Ajaz Patel and Tarun Nethula on the rankings table. Scott Kuggeleijn occupied 4th spot ahead of Todd Astle who completed a top five dominated by spin.
