The New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association (NZCPA) and Edinburgh Business School (EBS) are excited to announce that they have joined forces to offer players, past and present, access to the most flexible business education programme in the world.

The Edinburgh Business School MBA (Master in Business Administration) is the most popular worldwide, with 11,900 current students and 18,500 alumni in 160 countries.

The programmes comes with many benefits including:
  • Flexibility – students can start and finish when they like and study where they like
  • Transportability – it is possible to sit exams in over 400 different locations worldwide
  • Scale – Edinburgh Business School is the largest MBA provider in the world
  • Global Recognition – Degrees are recognised in all Commonwealth countries as well as the US
  • Accessible – There are various entry pathways available for students
  • Value – The MBA is already competitively priced, but past and present members of the NZCPA will be able to access additional partial scholarships making it a great investment opportunity

The NZCPA is passionate about player personal development and already offers current and past players access to programmes that support and challenge them to work on all aspects of their personal development - including education, work experience, finance, asset protection, professional cricket and personal development.  This relationship is an extension of the existing range of services provided by NZCPA.

The Edinburgh Business School MBA will enable players to study for a professional business qualification which will help them in their careers during and post cricket. Studying with Edinburgh Business School offers numerous benefits: personal and professional development, promotion or a change of career, a launch pad to starting their own business, global networking opportunities with like-minded professionals, and a broader, deeper understanding of business issues.

The MBA is delivered online so enables working professionals to study at their own pace, in their own time, combining study with work, travel and family commitments. Players will therefore be able to combine their studies with training and playing schedules, wherever they are in the world, enabling them to ‘earn while they learn’.

Sanj Silva, NZCPA National Personal Development Manager, is so convinced of the benefits of the programme he has already signed up to study, stating “The flexibility of the MBA is perfect for me to integrate study into my busy lifestyle“.

Study options for the MBA will be available to all NZCPA members, providing them with access to world class education to assist with their development.

“Being able to provide this service to our members is a major step forward for us.

“We anticipate our members will be attracted to the MBA as it offers the flexibility of online study where they are not bound by traditional semester time restrictions” said Silva.

Malcolm Kinns, Regional Manager for Edinburgh Business School in Australia and New Zealand, says the MBA programme will offer players’ new opportunities as they plan for life after their professional playing career.

“We are very excited to be working with the NZCPA to offer players and employees the opportunity to expand their horizons through study. Our programme is perfect for those who need flexibility and is therefore popular with working professionals from all walks of life and particularly for sports people and those who travel and have unpredictable schedules.”

Edinburgh Business School already have a number of professional athletes undertaking an MBA including   a strong level of interest from past and present New Zealand athletes from other codes.

Participants undertaking the EBS MBA through the NZCPA scheme will receive a scholarship towards their course fees and have the option of one-to-one mentoring throughout the programme.
